Over the next ten years, we will be making the transition to a fully accredited, residential, precollege music conservatory for grades five through twelve. We plan to have a day school for preschool children through the fourth grade. At the same time, we will continue to maintain our strong Community Music School which will remain a part of the Conservatory.
Our recruitment of talented students will initially focus on eastern North Carolina with anticipated development into a nationally recognized precollege conservatory program staffed with the best artist-teachers from across the nation. The curriculum will be well-rounded with music at the core. Students will have areas of focus such as flute, trumpet, piano, voice, etc. Ensembles for all levels and areas will be offered while students pursue their other academic subjects in fully equipped facilities.
The campus will in clude large and small concert halls, teaching studios, practice rooms, classrooms, rehearsal halls, family-style residences, gym-student center and attractive grounds with gardens and ponds. The students will participate in the planting and maintenace of vegetable and flower gardens and have chores in their residences. We want this to be a "green" campus with use of alternative energy sources and earth-friendly construction.
Yes, this is a huge vision - but if we can dream it, we can do it! We invite you to join with us as we build upon the prosperity of our present for an exciting future.
Where are we now?
Our Strategic Planning Group is working on a 10-year strategic plan. The first step is to relocate to an appropriate, temporary site at which we will open our preschool in fall 2009. At the same time, we will be working on land acquisition so that we may begin building the campus in 2010. Also in September 2010, we plan to add kindergarten. We would like to complete building phase one and open our preschool and elementary school (with grades 1 - 4) in the fall of 2011.
